The Bell Reed Organ
Built in Guelph, Ontario, in 1888, the W. Bell reed organ in the front of the sanctuary was a gift in 2007 of Don Dees in
memory of Judy Dees. This lovely old instrument is awaiting restoration, though it is playable and has added its voice to
worship at Trinity.
A great deal of 19th century music was composed for the reed organ, also known as a harmonium or melodeon. As was typical of reed organs of this period, it was not built to a standard pitch, and consequently cannot be played together with modern instruments tuned to A440. In 2009 Trinity accepted the gracious gift of a 1949 Haddorff Vertichord piano from Dr. Ralph Gehrke, which has been specially tuned to match the Bell reed organ, so Trinity now has the core of a Romantic style ensemble.
